Chef-to-Farmer Harvest Kick-off This Sunday!

Celebrate Our New Chef-to-Farmer Community!

Sunday October 14th, Fresh Farmers' Market Cooking Demo!

Join us this Sunday for our official kick-off party for our brand new Chef-to-Farmer Series sponsored by Le Pain Quotidien. Head baker over at LPQ Fashion Island, Jonathan Eng, will be back out to make a delicious farmers' market fresh tart. Demonstration kicks off at 10:30am.

Each month we'll continue to bring you local chefs committed to supporting California's small family farmers and farmers' markets like us! We hope to inspire you to not only shop and eat locally and healthfully, but to cook more at home with your family and friends. There's nothing like sharing a homemade meal to warm the soul this autumn.

Fun for the Family, Fresh Freebies, and Live Music!

What's sweet and red with juicy seeds to eat? For the answer to this and more fun trivia--join us for a farmers' market scavenger hunt! Take the kids throughout the market to meet our farmers and discover seasonal fruits and veggies. Complete the hunt and come back to the Information Booth for a fresh treat!

Who's ready to do the farmer jig with us? Live banjo playing from Travis Bartosh!

More Farmers This Sunday!

New Farmers Join the Market!

Future Foods Farms--Brea, California

Future Foods Farms from Brea (right here in Orange County!) will join us this Sunday. Come get nutritious fresh organic lettuces, microgreens, and more all grown super eco-consciously through an innovative aquaponics system. We recently went to visit with owner and farmer (and amazing chef to boot!), Adam Navidi, on his sustainable farm of aquaponic greenhouses. What an impressive set-up and the quality of his produce is outstanding! Do you know the role tilapia fish play in aquaponics farming? To learn more about Future Foods Farms' sustainable farming practices, you can check out their website here.

Pedro's Avocado Ranch--Fallbrook, California

Did you know we have more organic options for yummy healthy avocados? Pedro's Avocado Ranch also has tropical delights like dragon fruit for you! Ever tried it? Don't be afraid; slice it long ways and you can scoop out the juicy sweet fruit inside with a spoon. Some say it tastes like a cross between a kiwi and a pear. Deeelish!

Arriaga Flowers--Riverside County, California

We've got a brand new flower vendor bringing gorgeous bouquets to celebrate your day (or entire week!). We don't know about you, but at these oh-so-reasonable grower's prices, we like to buy several bundles to pretty up the entire house. Here's a tip: for that cozy autumn rustic look, pick a selection of simple flowers to place in your favorite jar or glass container. If you don't have a nifty jar with farmer's flair like we do, don't sweat it! Bet you have an old mason jar lying around or even old spaghetti sauce jars work too. Reuse, reduce, recycle! Oh, and when those flowers get a little too old, remember that most fresh cut flowers (watch out for the ones with hefty fibrous stems) can go in your green waste bin or be composted naturally at home with your food scraps.

New Era Farms--Nipomo (San Luis Obispo County), California

Nipomo has a long history of agriculture in California and with their mild weather, we're lucky enough to be on the receiving end of beautiful berries from one of their finest farmers, New Era Farms. They'll have an assortment of berries including strawberries and blackberries (maybe raspberries too, you'll have to come and see!) for us this Sunday. We're thinking a berry truffle for Sunday evening dessert may be in order. Oh, and did you know berries are a great source of Vitamin C and antioxidants to help keep our immune systems free of those upcoming flu bugs! Why don't you pack up a reusable container of fresh nutritious berries for the kids' lunches Monday morning? Sweet and easy to eat, what a treat!

All Natural Seafood Market--Los Angeles, California

Thinking about what to make for dinner this week? Go pescetarian with our newest vendor, All Natural Seafood Market.  They've got red snapper, sea bass, halibut, salmon, tuna, mahi mahi, white shrimp, lobster tail, and scallops! Maybe salmon on the grill topped with fresh sprouts and lemon? It doesn't get much easier or healthier than that! Or, if you really want a health bonus to accompany the wonderfully omega-3 rich salmon, why not add a slice of healthy fat and Vitamin E rich avocado on top? It's easy to eat fresh and healthy at the farmers' market!

Knife and Scissors Sharpening--Local Tradesman

Now, with all that cooking you'll be doing (not to mention to prepare for our upcoming Chef-to-Farmer series), you'll definitely need your culinary tools in tip top shape! Strangely we're saying this sentence, yes, bring your knives and sharp objects to the market! Arnie will be there to get your tools chef ready. You can check out his prices here.

Rain, shine, fog, sweltering heat--we're here waiting for ya! Come and see us this Sunday!
